Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that India will host the next phase of its global ‘140 Years’. 140 Places’ Expedition, a global campaign celebrating 140 years since the invention of the automobile. As part of the project, three new Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans are traveling in six continents and 140 locations. In the Indian regions, the luxury flagship will pass through several famous, cultural and important places across the country.

The India drive will begin in July

The program commemorates the 140th anniversary of Carl Benz’s patent for the world’s first automobile in 1886. On this tour, Mercedes-Benz aims to showcase its engineering heritage while showcasing the people, traditions and places that have shaped mobility over the years.India leg will start in JulyThe drive in India will begin in July and will take the S-Class through various locations that represent the country’s heritage, architecture, art, urban development and diverse ecosystems. The Indian tour is planned across two different routes to reach different parts of the country.

The team will arrive in Pune, where Mercedes-Benz has its manufacturing operations in India. From Pune, the two vehicles will separate, one going to Mumbai and the other going to Hampi

The first route, designed by Gotlieb, will start in New Delhi before continuing to Amritsar, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The region has some of the world’s best mountain roads, including Umling La, along with the high mountains near Manali. The route will descend to the Gangetic plains. From there, the S-Class will pass through Lucknow, Varanasi and Patna, highlighting cities known for their history, art and spiritual significance. The route also includes a short stopover in Bhutan, the only international leg of the India tour, before returning to Delhi.Two other S-Class sedans, Carl and Bertha, will travel together from Delhi via Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur and Ahmedabad, destinations known for their architecture, royal heritage and traditional arts.

Mercedes-Benz says the program is about documenting the people, traditions, skills and communities encountered along the way rather than just completing a long journey.

The vehicles will also meet in Bengaluru, home to one of Mercedes-Benz’s largest research and development centers outside of Germany.
