Sunil Shetty talks about his on-screen rivalry with Akshay Kumar
In an interview with NDTV, Sunil Shetty discusses the playful tension surrounding his pairing with Akshay Kumar in multiple films and whether the dynamic in Welcome to the Jungle is a nod to their real-life starry rivalry. He said, “Apart from competition, I think whatever tension there was between Akshay and me (in the film), friendship always happened at the end. That was always there. That’s the basic formula of Hindi cinema and it has always worked for us. Take Waqt Hamara Hai, Mohra and ‘Dhadkan’ for example; conflicts occurred from time to time. The audience loved it too. The director used this formula here too (Welcome to the Jungle) because Akshay and I didn’t get along well in the film.“Shetty further elaborated on the interesting elements that his character brings to the film. He added, “It’s important that people enjoy the moment, and that’s what shows. Pulling each other’s legs, teasing each other in a failed movie. My character says, ‘I have to do what he’s doing.'” Of course, there’s also a lot of fun. “
Sunil Shetty praises Akshay Kumar’s professionalism
Apart from the on-screen banter, Sunil Shetty also had some warm words for his co-star off-camera. “At this point, I admire how Akshay handles his career, health and everything. His timing in comedy is something else,” he said.
