The Bihar Education Department has revised the school timings for secondary and higher schools across the state due to the ongoing heat wave. The new schedule came into effect on June 22 and will remain in place until June 30, 2026.According to the Directorate of Secondary Education, schools now operate from 6.30am to 12.30pm. The decision was made to protect students from extreme summer temperatures while ensuring that academic activities continue without interruption.Under the revised schedule, schools will open at 6.30 am, followed by morning prayer and assembly until 7 am. The lessons will then take place in periods of 40 minutes each. From 9 am to 9.40 am there will be a break and the mid-day lunch for primary schools. The final teaching period will end at 12.20 pm, after which the school authorities will spend 10 minutes reviewing the lessons taught, planning the next day and checking the students’ homework.The department has also authorized District Magistrates (DMs) to take additional measures depending on local weather conditions. If necessary, DMs can modify school operations or take other measures to ensure the safety of students in their districts.
