Artificial Intelligence will become a part of classroom learning in all Punjab government schools from next month, with Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Thursday announcing the statewide launch of an AI curriculum that has been in development for the past year as reported by PTI.The announcement was made at the ‘Bright Minds Punjab 2026’ program held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, where Class 12 students who scored more than 95 percent in the Punjab Board examinations were felicitated. The event was attended by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Education Secretary Sonali Giri, teachers and students.
AI curriculum ready after a year of preparation
Addressing the meeting, Bains said the state government had spent the last year developing the Artificial Intelligence curriculum and is now ready to introduce it to all government schools early next month.He said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that students of government schools are exposed to emerging technologies and develop skills that will become increasingly important in higher education and future careers.
The government is seeking students’ opinions on education reforms
Bains also said that the program marked the first occasion that the Minister of Education and the Secretary of Education interacted directly with students to understand their views on the examination system, school curriculum and classroom teaching methods.According to the minister, the feedback received from students will be considered while formulating future educational policies, giving students a greater voice in the reforms affecting the state’s education system.
High achieving students honored
The event recognized the academic achievements of Class 12 students who secured more than 95 percent in the board exams.Congratulating the students, Bains described them as the future of Punjab and the country. He expressed confidence that many of them will go on to serve the nation as civil servants, doctors, lawyers and professionals in various fields.
Punjab claims the top position in the Education Index
Highlighting the state’s education progress, Bains said that Punjab has secured the top position in the country’s Education Index. He credited the success to the collective efforts of teachers, students and the government, stating that sustained reforms have strengthened the state’s school education system.
Manish Sisodia stresses the importance of education in AI
Speaking at the event, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, said that the progress of any nation depends on the quality of its education system and emphasized that ensuring quality education for every child should be the first responsibility of the government.He said that Artificial Intelligence is expected to create new job opportunities while transforming the nature of many existing jobs. In such a scenario, he said, students must be equipped with modern technological skills to be prepared for the changing world of work.Sisodia also called for reforms in the evaluation process, urged the authorities to eliminate cheating and promote scientific methods of teaching in schools.
Sonali Giri urges students to contribute to society
Education Secretary Sonali Giri encouraged teachers and students to work together to tackle pressing social challenges such as drug abuse, unemployment and deficiencies in the education system.She also administered a pledge asking students to uphold constitutional values, protect the environment and preserve the country’s cultural heritage.
Attention shifts to future-ready classrooms
