More information about the film and soundtrack
The film’s soundtrack was produced by icons and singers Este Haim and Amanda Yamate, as well as music director Season Kent, who wanted to make the film as broad and romantic as possible with the help of music.Speaking with Netflix, the three weighed in on creating the musical list for the film and how the process made them feel. Yamate said they were a great team and brought equal balance to the film’s sound through their input. She adds, “We listened to some classic romantic comedies to see how they balanced the themes – it was really fun to put a modern spin on that. Leah was very open to the inspiration we got from a lot of needle drops. I looked at orchestral music. Esther is a rock legend and plays bass and synthesizers. We were a good team to figure it all out.”Kent said of drawing inspiration from other rom-coms, “When we were assembling the film and finding the tone and footing, we had several rom-com scores in mind. But Amanda and Esther had their own vision and we worked it into the film as quickly as possible.”Yamate also added that for the main essence of the film, she was “trying to hit the heart and express what it means to love your sister and possibly lose her. Esther has sisters. I have a sister. “
