New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) After teenage star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his India debut, vice-chairman Rajiv Shukla defended the selection process, saying the board provides opportunities purely on the basis of merit.Shukla dismissed claims on social media that Suryavanshi was unfairly overlooked and said he always believed the youngster would get an opportunity at the right time.“Warm congratulations to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for making his debut and getting this opportunity. BCCI will not treat anyone unfairly; those who deserve it will get a chance. There are many people on social media claiming that opportunities were not given; people criticized the coach and captain. But that is not the case,” Shukla told ANI.He added that he was confident that Sooryavanshi would make the most of the opportunity.“I said the other day that when the right time comes, he will definitely get a chance, and yesterday, he did. I believe he will perform well in the future and really play his role. This is an excellent decision by the team management and we should applaud it,” he said.
Youngest Indian international footballer
Suryavanshi created history after being named in India’s starting XI for the second T20I against England in Manchester.At the age of 15 years and 99 days, the Bihar batsman became the youngest player to represent India in all formats of international cricket. He also became the youngest national Test player to make his T20I debut.The left-handed opener made an interesting start to his international career, scoring 14 runs off 10 balls with two sixes before being stumped by Will Jacks.In the process, he surpassed the previous records held by Sachin Tendulkar and Piyush Chawla to become India’s youngest international cricketer.
