The Nationalist Congress Party’s film and culture ministry (NCP Chitrapat va Sanskrutik Vibhag) objected to the film’s title, saying “Eetha” did not adequately respect the legacy of Vithabai Narayangaonkar. The party questioned why the film was not simply titled “Vitha” or “Vithabai”.The department emphasized that Vithabai Narayangaonkar was more than just a folk performer, she was a torchbearer of Maharashtra’s cultural and Tamasha artistic traditions and felt that the current title failed to convey this impact. The opposition was intensified when Veetabhai’s sons Kailash Narayangaonkar and Rajesh Narayangaonkar and her grandson Mohit Narayangaonkar supported the NCP unit’s demand for a name change.

He also noted that no matter what title was used, the producers always believed in whose story the film was telling.
