Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is about to create history. If India make his debut in the first T20I against Ireland in Belfast on Friday, the 15-year-old will become the youngest player to represent India in international cricket, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.If Sooryavanshi plays, he will be 15 years and 91 days old. Tendulkar made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days. After strong performances over the past few months, the teenager has earned his chance. He was the highest run-scorer in IPL 2026, scoring 776 runs in 16 innings for Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of 237.30.Just a few days ago, while representing India A against Sri Lanka A, he broke the record for the fastest half-century in Category A cricket, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls.Soriyavanshi continues to attract the attention of the cricketing world as anticipation builds for his possible debut. His rise has sparked comparisons with some of India’s greatest talents and his selection could mark another milestone for Indian cricket.His debut also ended Team India’s long wait for junior cricketers. The last teenager to represent India at international level was Prithvi Shaw in 2018.On 4 October 2018, Shaw made his debut against the West Indies in the first Test of the series and scored one goal in that match. He became the youngest Indian batsman to score a hundred on his Test debut.Since then, no teenager has represented India in international cricket. Shaw subsequently played five Test matches for India before losing his place in the national team.If selected for the match against Ireland, Suryavansh will not only break Tendulkar’s record but will also become the first teenager to play for India in almost a decade.
