GV Prakash Kumar, who made his mark as a composer in Tamil and Telugu films, is all set to compose his first major Hindi film score in Nayi Naveli, a project backed by Aanand L Rai Productions and directed by Balaji Mohan. The musician, who is also AR Rahman’s nephew, spoke about Yami Gautam Dhar-starrer, the timeless appeal of lip-synced songs, and the rumors surrounding his paycheck.

In an interview with Variety India, Prakash Kumar talks about his first full-length Hindi score for Nayi Naveli, looks back on his journey in Hindi films and shares his excitement for the project. He said, “I got a chance to work on ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ because Anurag Kashyap is a good friend of mine. But it wasn’t a full-fledged Hindi debut for me. As for Anand L Rai’s “Nayi Naveli”, all the songs are composed by me. This will be very interesting. I believe these songs will be performed beautifully. Yami Gautam plays the lead role. We all know how beautifully she expresses her emotions. So, my songs are in safe hands. Nayi Naveli, directed by Balaji Mohan, will be worth the wait. “
GV Prakash Kumar on Hindi composition: ‘Language doesn’t matter’
When asked whether composing music for a Hindi film feels different than composing music for a Tamil or Telugu project, Prakash Kumar was quick to dismiss the notion of any difference. “It’s no different for me than a Telugu or Tamil film. Every score is a challenge for me. Language doesn’t matter. I compose every score as if it’s my first time,” he said.

GV Prakash Kumar is a composer, singer and actor who has worked in more than 120 Tamil and Telugu films. He won the National Award for Best Music Direction for “Soorarai Pottru”.
