MUMBAI: The use of AI in the content creation process of a study material for the MA Psychology program offered by University of MumbaiThe Center for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) has drawn criticism and ridicule from students on social media. The university, however, stated that the extent of such use is less than 10% and is also “explicitly mentioned in the study material by the content developers”. However, he created a committee to check and review the content.A student shared the IV semester psychology MA study material for Social Issues (Skills and Intervention), with a caption that says “MU now uses ChatGPT to generate content for CDOE psychology students” saying why students are unemployed.The study material said that “the content was developed under the academic supervision of H Naik using AI-based technologies.”MU, in a statement, however, stated: “It was clarified that the use of these AI tools was limited to purposes such as grammatical correction, linguistic refinement, improving the consistency and readability of the content, and providing editorial assistance. The extent of such use is stated to be less than 10 percent, in accordance with the prevailing proposals for accepted research, including research proposals and guidelines of the UGC, “. clarified MU’s statement. It is also clarified that the material prepared for this program is in the form of a self-learning guide and is not considered a book.However, in order to conduct a thorough investigation and an objective examination of all aspects of the matter, the CDOE constituted a committee. The committee is currently in charge of the necessary investigation, and further action is being pursued accordingly.
