New Delhi: England have announced their 17-player squad for the five-match T20I series against India on July 1, with 22-year-old all-rounder James Coles getting his maiden call-up to the national team. Harry Brook will captain the team, while Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker and Saqib Mahmood return after missing the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Brayden Cass and Jamie Overton are out with injuries.Coles is a left-arm spin bowling all-rounder who has impressed in domestic cricket, SA20 and England Lions. He is also the most expensive signing in the Men’s Hundred 2026 and has scored over 1,300 runs in T20 cricket while taking 53 wickets.National selector Marcus North said the youngster earned his opportunity through his consistent performance last year.“James Coles is an exciting new addition who has earned his place with his performances in the England Lions squad and in T20 competitions at home and abroad over the past 12 months,” North said.“We have chosen a bigger squad to accommodate the fact that this series will begin shortly after the Test series against New Zealand, which allows us to remain flexible.”England have little time to rest before the India series, with Harry Brooke and Jacob Bethell likely to play the first T20I in less than 48 hours after the third Test against New Zealand.The five-match series begins in Durham on July 1 before heading to Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton.
