The surrounding controversy CBSEThe Class 12 post-result process has taken a new turn, weeks after the Board admitted that it had mistakenly uploaded another student’s Physics answer sheet under Vedant Shrivastava’s roll number. This time, the Board and the student publicly disagreed on whether the increase of nine marks in his Physics score came after the revaluation or after the first answer mix-up was corrected.The latest dispute started after Vedant shared a video on X saying that he had received his revaluation result. According to him, he had asked for the revaluation of 11 questions and his overall score increased by only two – one point each in Mathematics and Computer Science.“I got my re-evaluation results. I asked 11 questions and only two marks increased in my re-evaluation results,” he said.In another post, Vedant wrote: “Hi @cbseindia29, the increase of 9 marks in physics that you are talking about did not increase due to the revaluation process, they are my real marks which you did not give me earlier because you changed my answer sheet, and 2 marks were increased from 1 mark in cs and maths.”CBSE responded by rejecting the claim in an official statement issued on Monday, calling Vedant’s social media post “factually incorrect” and a “blatant lie”. According to the Council, their marks in theory have changed from 46 to 47 in Mathematics, from 35 to 44 in Physics and from 61 to 62 in Computer Science, taking the total increase after the revaluation to 11 points.Vedant, however, argued that CBSE was treating two separate developments as one. Responding to the Board, he wrote, “How is this a blatant lie, the increase of 9 marks in physics does not happen after the opening of the revaluation portal and if the physics answer sheet was not mine how the marks given on that answer sheet were my marks.”The controversy started in May, when Vedant claimed that the scanned Physics answer sheet available from CBSE was not with him. He said the writing and attempted answers were different from his. Their posts have gone viral, with many students also raising concerns about CBSE’s on-screen marking (OSM) system.After reviewing the matter, CBSE acknowledged that there had been an inadvertent exchange of answer sheets during the post-result process. Later, the Board sent Vedant his current Physics answer book and informed him that action to update his result, wherever appropriate, would be taken. After that correction, his Physics marks were revised.After receiving his original answer sheet, Vedant said he noticed what he believed were more grading errors and asked for revaluation. This is CBSE’s first year in implementing the on-screen marking system. Many students have raised concerns about discrepancies in the marked answer books.
