Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batsman Abishek Porel has found himself at the center of controversy after a woman filed a police complaint alleging that he maintained a physical relationship with her on the basis of a promise of marriage but later refused to fulfill the promise. The complaint also contains allegations of battery and criminal intimidation.The complaint was filed jointly by the woman and her mother at Mogra police station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Tuesday. Police confirmed an investigation has been launched into the allegations.According to the complaint, the woman claimed she and Borrell had been in a relationship for the past three years. She claimed that problems started between them last year, after which the cricketer gradually began to distance himself from her.The complainant further claimed that Borel had promised her that he would marry her but had now reneged on that promise. She also accused the 23-year-old cricketer of having sex with her on the promise of marriage.In addition to the charges, the woman claimed she was assaulted and criminally intimidated.“We have received the complaint and started investigation,” a police officer told PTI.Borrell strongly denies the accusations. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who is currently in Bengaluru, termed the allegations as baseless and said the timing of the complaint was related to his recent success on the cricket field.“I’m playing well now, so all kinds of things can happen,” Borrell was quoted as saying.The Bengal cricketer also said he would provide a detailed reply once the authorities complete the preliminary stages of the investigation.“I will talk about it when the police investigate.
