ETimes review of “Con City”
ETimes gives Con City a 3-star rating out of 5. The review noted, “Hate for Harish Durairaj: For a debut, he goes beyond the cookie-cutter template, constructing a multi-stranded story of con with a family pulse rather than the usual heroics. Not all of it works, and the film would have been sharper by getting away from the lengthy 15-20 minute sequence.” The performers cover a lot of ground. Arjun Das’s playing is softer and warmer than his more intense recent outings, and the double act of Yogi Babu and Vadivukkarasi is the most reliable source of fun. Sean Roldan’s songs are a real highlight, his background score is solid, and Aravind Viswanathan’s cinematography is serviceable. There’s nothing here that you haven’t seen before, but the cast keeps the familiar flowing. Cannes is happy to be a decent human being, and you probably are too. “
