Arshad Warsi Memorable comic characters from series like Munna Bhai MBBS, Golmaal and Dhamaal have entertained audiences for decades. While many associate the actor with his impeccable comedic timing, Warsi believes the secret lies in staying true to each character and not repeating successful formulas. As he gears up for the release of Pritam and Pedro, the actor reflects on why every comedy role requires a completely different approach.
Every comedy character belongs to his own world
Arshad has created fan-favorite characters like Circuit, Madhav and Adi, but he says he never tried to make them special. According to him, this distinction comes entirely from the writing and the vision of the filmmakers.Explaining his philosophy, he said: “A tour has to make the audience laugh in a different way than Gopal or Madhav. But it’s not that I decided to make them different. It’s about how the characters are written. I need to play the character exactly as the director or writer envisioned it. That’s what extracts the organic humor. “He further emphasized that each series has its own identity and rhythm, making it impossible to transplant a character into another universe.“I couldn’t do a tour in ‘Golmaal.’ It just didn’t fit.” The lines don’t fit. Mentality and sensibility simply don’t match. Each character has their own sacred space. You have to look at it strictly from a cinematic perspective, a story perspective, and a writer-director perspective. You shouldn’t mess with this. “
Rajkumar Hirani Comedy works differently
Warsi, who reunited with Rajkumar Hirani through Pritam and Pedro, said the filmmaker’s style of humor is different from traditional slapstick. Instead of relying on punchlines, Hirani creates comedy by adding subtle humor to emotionally charged situations.Speaking to Variety India magazine, Arshad said of the filmmaker’s style, “Raju’s comedy is unlike any other. It’s a very different space. It’s more natural, more realistic, more human. I can hand you a clip from one of his films, and the exact same clip could have been shot very seriously as a pure drama. But he added humor to it. He took a clip that was supposed to be very dramatic and serious and gave it a light-hearted feel.” Doing so suddenly changes the dynamics of the entire scene. That’s his specialty – something most people simply can’t do. “Hinting at what viewers can expect from Pritam and Pedro, he added, “We have those scenes in this show as well. There’s a serious robbery that happens, but deep down you have a little smile on your face because you see something weird happen; something that’s actually very obvious and real.” Honestly, I love trying all of these styles. “
Why Arshad forgot how to play Tour
At the launch of ‘Pritam and Pedro’, Rajkumar Hirani shared an interesting story from the sets of ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’. According to the filmmakers, it was initially difficult for Arshad to get back into character for Circuit after a long gap between the two films.Recalling the incident, Hirani said, “There was a time when Arshad actually forgot how to play circuit. Three years after Munna Bhai MBBS, We are on the first day of shooting for ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’. I kept looking at him through the monitor and said, ‘Arshad, circuit nahi lag raha hai, yaar. Kuch alag ho raha hai. He looked at me and said, “Haan yaar, kuch alag ho raha hai.” He actually put the DVD of the first film in his vanity and sat for half an hour watching himself play the role, and only then did he get back into the groove.“Warsi admits that forgetting his previous role is actually part of his process.“That’s just how I operate. You do your job, you completely forget about it, and then you move on to the next one. You have to clear your mind completely to think about the next role.”
Arshad’s next release is Pritam and Pedro
After starring in “Welcome to the Jungle”, Arshad will next be seen in “Pritam and Pedro”, directed by Avinash Arun and backed by Rajkumar Hirani. Starring Vir Hirani and Warsi, the series follows the unlikely partnership between old-school Goan police officer Pedro Gonsalves and young cyber expert Pritam as they investigate a high-stakes digital kidnapping masterminded by a cybercriminal played by Vikrant Massey.A blend of crime, comedy and generational conflict, Pritam and Pedro promises to showcase another side of Arshad Warsi’s comedy repertoire while staying true to his belief that every character should have his or her own unique identity.
