Mumbai’s relentless monsoon has forced the University of Mumbai to halt its examination schedule, with authorities postponing all undergraduate and postgraduate examinations scheduled for July 6, 2026. Heavy rainfall, widespread water and transport disruptions brought much of the city to a standstill. The decision follows the India Meteorological Department‘s (IMD) weather warning of adverse conditions in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With flooded roads and public transport services severely affected, the university said the safety of students and staff could not be compromised.

The University suspends the examination calendar of July 6

In an official notification, the University of Mumbai announced that all undergraduate and postgraduate examinations scheduled for July 6 have been postponed until further notice.The university attributed the decision to continuous rains that triggered severe flooding in many parts of the city, making travel to exam centers unsafe. He directed the candidates not to report to their respective centers on the scheduled date.The postponement comes as Mumbai continues to face the annual monsoon challenge, with persistent rain disrupting normal life and affecting road and rail connectivity.

Student safety cited as top priority

The university said the postponement was prompted by the prevailing weather conditions and the IMD advisory, which indicated heavy rainfall across the region.With thousands of students dependent on suburban trains, buses and road transport to reach exam venues, officials have decided that conducting exams in deteriorating weather conditions exposes candidates and staff to avoidable risks.

A new exam schedule to be released

While postponing the exams, the university clarified that the papers have not been cancelled. A revised schedule for all the exams originally scheduled for July 6 will be announced soon through the university’s official website.In its notification, the university stated: “The new schedule for the said examination will be published soon on the official website of the University of Mumbai. Students are requested to check the notices on the university website frequently.”Students have been advised to monitor the university portal regularly for further announcements regarding the revised exam schedule.

Existing hall tickets remain valid

To prevent any kind of confusion for the rescheduled tests, the university has ensured that candidates will not be asked to secure new admission cards.Students have been advised to keep their hall ticket which will still be valid for the postponed exams. The university also stated that the candidates should depend on the updates released by the official website of the university.
