NEW DELHI: The World University of Design (WUD) has introduced two new academic programs in theater for the session 2026-27. The institution has launched a four-year Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours) in Theater and a two-year Master of Performing Arts in Theater aimed at students in India seeking formal training in performance and related creative fields.The programs come at a time when performance-based careers in India are expanding beyond traditional theater spaces. According to the university, opportunities now span film, television, OTT platforms, live events, digital media, education and immersive storytelling formats. Admissions for both programs are currently open.Expansion of performance education in IndiaWUD said the new courses were developed in response to the changing needs of India’s creative economy. The university noted that structured theater education in India that integrates classical training with contemporary industry practice remains limited, even as the demand for trained artists continues to grow.The institution highlighted that India’s media and entertainment sector is projected to grow significantly in the coming years, supported by the expansion of digital content, live entertainment and experiential industries. The programs aim to align academic training with these evolving professional pathways.

Structure of the undergraduate programThe Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours) in Theater will include training in acting, voice, movement, directing, script analysis, scriptwriting, theater history and production. The course is designed to provide students with theoretical understanding and practical exposure through workshops, performances and collaborative projects.Students also engage in theater and production work designed to build professional experience during the course. WUD stated that graduates will complete the program with a portfolio of performances that can support entry into many sectors of the creative industry, including theater, film, television and digital platforms.Postgraduate training and specializationThe Master of Performing Arts in Theater is aimed at graduates who want to specialize more in areas such as directing, dramaturgy, theater pedagogy, performance research and creative leadership. The program will also focus on advanced performance practice, research methods and interdisciplinary collaboration.The university stated that postgraduate students will be trained to take on roles as practitioners, educators and researchers in India’s cultural sector. The curriculum also includes exposure to contemporary performance theories and collaborative creative processes.Interdisciplinary learning environmentWUD said theater students will study alongside peers from design, fashion, animation, film, architecture, visual arts and management disciplines. The university added that masterclasses, festivals, productions and industry interactions form part of the learning process.According to the institution, the programs are aimed at preparing students for careers in India’s expanding creative industry where performance, design and technology are increasingly interconnected.
