The Patna district administration has extended the suspension of academic activities for students from Kindergarten to Class 8 in all government and private schools till June 30 due to the continuous heat wave and extremely high temperatures.The new order was issued by the District Magistrate (DM) Kundan Kumar to protect children from health risks caused by severe weather. It remains in effect from June 29 to June 30, 2026.According to the order issued on June 28, the district administration said that the ongoing heat wave and high temperatures continue to pose a serious threat to the health and safety of school children. Keeping this in mind, he decided to extend the restrictions on physical academic activities.The order was issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. It also follows an earlier order issued on June 21, 2026, under Memo No. 8706/Legal, through which similar restrictions were already imposed due to the intense heat.Under the latest directive, academic activities for students from Kindergarten to Class 8 will remain suspended in all government and private schools in Patna district till June 30, 2026.The school authorities have been instructed to reschedule their academic activities in accordance with the latest directions of the district administration. While regular classroom teaching for these classes has been suspended during this period, schools have been asked to ensure compliance with the revised schedule.
Decision made to ensure the safety of children
District Magistrate Kundan Kumar said the decision was taken after the administration found that the prevailing weather conditions continued to endanger the health and lives of the children. As the heat wave persists across the district, the suspension of academic activities for younger students has been deemed a necessary precaution.The district administration has directed all government and private schools to strictly follow the order during the specified period. The decision comes as many parts of Bihar continue to experience extremely high temperatures, prompting authorities to take preventive measures to reduce heat-related risks for schoolchildren.
