Laroyce Hawkins is leaving the long-running police procedural “Chicago P.D.” after more than a decade filming the series. The actor, who has been a regular on the show since its premiere in 2014, will be leaving during the upcoming 14th season.According to Deadline , Hawkins will return for the first two to three episodes of Season 14, wrapping up his character Kevin Atwater’s storyline before leaving. Exactly how his character will exit the show is still being kept under wraps, although sources say it will happen early in the season. Hawkins also played Atwater in various crossover events with other police procedurals in the same series on the network.

Kevin Atwater’s Recent Character Development

As a member of the intelligence unit under Hank Voight, Atwater served alongside elite officers, most recently including Adam Ruzek, Kim Burgess, Dante Torres and other team members. The character is described as handsome, honest, and loyal, and fans often discuss his personal life and hope he finds romantic fulfillment.Although Atwater had been in a serious relationship with him before, it wasn’t until Season 13 Episode 5 that he reconnected with Officer Tasha Fox, his past platonic friend who later became a romantic interest. However, the potential love connection was immediately challenged when Tasha revealed that night that she would be moving to Miami in a week to look for a new job. She left before Atwater woke up the next morning, leaving an orange as a nod to her new home in the Sunshine State and an open invitation for Atwater to join her.

Atwater spent the rest of the season trying to contact Tasha. He would start writing text messages saying he missed her but never sent them. He struggled with what to say and whether to connect, even though there was still an undeniable attraction between them. Then in episode 11, Foxx returned to Chicago and showed up on Atwater’s doorstep, revealing that she was pregnant with their first child. If Atwater ultimately decides to leave Chicago for Miami, it would be in line with recent developments in his character.

LaRoyce Hawkins’s wider television work

In addition to his role in the police procedural, Hawkins has appeared in various other series, including the streaming platform’s Marvel series, Power Book IV: Force, and Ballers, among other projects throughout his career.
