The Uttar Pradesh government has proposed a separate Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for in-service teachers, along with the Chief Minister. Yogi Adityanath directing the Uttar Pradesh Educational Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) to create more opportunities for serving educators to meet the mandatory eligibility requirement.The direction was issued during a high-level review meeting on Tuesday to assess preparations for the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026. The exam will be held on July 2, 3 and 4.
Separate TET for in-service teachers
During the meeting, the Prime Minister said that in-service teachers should not lose opportunities due to limited chances to take the Teacher Eligibility Test.He directed the Commission to conduct a separate TET for in-service teachers so that they get adequate opportunities to establish their eligibility. According to the Prime Minister, teachers should not face difficulties just because they have less chances to appear in the exam.
Almost 20 lakh candidates to take UPTET
The state government expects 19,94,661 candidates to appear for UPTET 2026. Out of the total, 17,67,180 candidates are from Uttar Pradesh, while 2,27,481 candidates are from other states.The highest number of candidates were registered in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kanpur Nagar, Meerut, Mau, Moradabad, Agra and Jaunpur.
CM stresses the transparency and convenience of candidates
Reviewing the arrangements, Adityanath directed the officials to ensure that the examination is conducted in a fair, transparent and credible manner.He said that no applicant should face inconvenience due to transportation, accommodation, security, or lack of basic facilities. Officials have been directed to make adequate arrangements at railway stations, bus stations and other major transit points, especially for candidates traveling from other districts and states.
The centers are required to provide basic facilities
The Prime Minister ordered all examination centers to ensure the availability of drinking water, clean toilets, shaded waiting areas, uninterrupted food, fire safety measures and emergency medical services.The district administrations have also been asked to keep health and disaster management teams on alert in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
The district magistrates said to do the test
Adityanath directed the district magistrates to conduct a full test of the examinations a day before the test. He also directed that only officials with clean service records should be assigned examination duties.The Prime Minister also asked officials to closely monitor exam-related rumors and misinformation on social media to prevent confusion among candidates.
