New Delhi: Zimbabwe created history on Tuesday by notching their biggest-ever Test win and winning back-to-back Test matches for the first time in 25 years. leader Richard NgarawaZimbabwe defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs in the one-off Test at Harare Sports Club. This victory came after a 73-run victory over Afghanistan in October 2025, which was Zimbabwe’s first Test victory since April 2001.The last time Zimbabwe achieved this feat was in the 2001 Test series when they defeated Bangladesh 2-0. Overall, this was only their third consecutive Test win, having previously managed to defeat India and Pakistan in the 1998 edition.
Zimbabwe dominated throughout
Zimbabwe’s fast bowlers broke through Bangladesh’s batting line-up after winning the toss and opting to bowl. The visitors were bowled out for just 140 after conceding 8 wickets for just 7 runs in the first innings. Mominul Haque hit 60 balls alone while Newman Nyamhuri starred with four wickets. Ngarava proud after making history
Zimbabwe captain Richard Ngarawa said the achievement means a lot to the team.“Well, it feels good to make history. This is two series in a row and it’s always a good feeling and hopefully we can continue it.”He also praised Zimbabwe’s growing roster of players, saying it has strengthened the team.“It’s very important because from before, we used to look at 25 players, 30 players, now with 42 players, it’s a bigger player pool and we can share the workload more with the bowlers. We can pick the best batsmen in the country and get better performances.”The captain highlighted the contribution of the batsmen and paid special praise to youngster Newman Nyamhuri.“Brian Bennett is one of the best batsmen in our team and everyone else has to bowl some runs and that makes a team. Everybody has to contribute something. That’s why you’re seeing this W result. Newman is going to be a big name for Zimbabwe in the future. I’m really proud of him and how quickly he learns.”Looking ahead to the ODI series, Ngarava said:“There will be a few days off but I’m looking forward to the ODIs and taking it day by day and see how it goes.”
