On June 23, Mumbai continued heavy rainfall, leading to waterlogging in many parts of the city and disrupting traffic movement. Amid the ongoing rain and an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many students and parents are wondering whether schools and colleges will remain open tomorrow.So far, there has been no official announcement from the Mumbai administration regarding the closure of schools and colleges. The authorities have not declared a holiday, and educational institutions are expected to function as usual, unless a new order is issued.
IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and neighboring Palghar district, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in the next few hours.Share the time update on X, u Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), quoting the IMD, said, “Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and intense to very intense spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 40-60 kmph are very likely to occur at isolated places.”The weather warning comes after many parts of the city witnessed heavy rainfall overnight.
Waterlogging affects traffic in many areas
The heavy rain led to waterlogging at many places in Mumbai, affecting vehicular movement and causing inconvenience to passengers.According to BMC’s rainfall data, Mumbai recorded an average rainfall of 56 mm between 8 am and 11 pm on June 23. The eastern suburbs received 23mm of rainfall, while the western suburbs recorded 33mm.Several areas in the western suburbs reported significant rainfall between 10pm and 11pm. Charkop Sector 1 Municipal School in Kandivali recorded 32 mm of rainfall, MHB Municipal School in Malad received 28 mm, while Gajdharbandh Storm Water Pumping Station recorded 26 mm.
BMC official talks about the situation
Speaking to the news agency ANIa BMC official said that the civic authorities are continuing efforts to manage severe waterlogging in the affected areas.“We have not been able to find a temporary solution for this severe waterlogging. Our officers are staying there to ensure that the vehicles do not pass. But some rickshaw drivers are still trying to pass their vehicles. A rickshaw landed here in the center of the metro. The life of the driver was in danger. Two of our officers helped to bring him out,” he said. ANI
The expected school holiday announcement
Currently, no official order has been issued regarding a school or college vacation in Mumbai for tomorrow. Students and parents are advised to keep checking for updates from the Mumbai administration, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, and their respective educational institutions.If the weather conditions worsen, the authorities can make a decision and issue an announcement.
